Nutrition & Oriental Medicine

Photo of natural medicineCombine Eastern and Western medicine to heal and prevent illness.

Nutrition and Oriental Medicine are 2 of the fastest-growing fields in health care today. Health practitioners have begun to integrate traditional Chinese medicine concepts into practice. Students who are accepted for transfer and complete this course of study will receive training and graduate as practitioners who can integrate the traditional concepts into practice. Students focused on nutrition will learn about the individual components of food and how they affect the human body.

Program Description

BMC offers courses that cover the first 2 years of a typical 4-year college natural health sciences program (college-level courses) as well as courses to develop skills needed for college-level courses.

Once you complete your associate at BMC, you can apply to the Bastyr University Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Program or Bastyr University Nutrition Program as a junior in the areas of acupuncture, oriental medicine, nutrition, or exercise science and wellness.

Degree Options: Associate in Arts and Sciences degree (Option A)

Program Planning

High School Preparation: While in high school, students should pursue all the available courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and physics. Students should gain exposure to the naturopathic medical profession by observing, assisting, and gaining work experience in offices, clinics, hospitals, and research facilities, and by exploring the medical literature.

Recommended Class Schedule: We suggest the following schedule of classes for students who wish to earn the Associate Degree in Arts and Sciences at BMC. This degree is flexible, and some substitutions can be made - providing that the course of studies is in agreement for the Arts and Sciences Option A degree.
